In 2021, what had started as a language service provider company was transformed into an academy with Sign language being the pioneer module to be introduced. It was then followed by Ndebele, Shona, Swahili, Tonga, Portuguese, German, Chinese and French. It is during this period that a realisation in the need for teaching languages and language-related professions as a step towards the formalization of translation and interpretation as a profession was made. ALASO Academy also provides training in Translation and Interpretation. Translation, interpretation, editing, proof reading, transcribing, script writing, typesetting, voice over and dubbing are also some of the services offered by ALASO Academy.
The academy is more biased to Sign language as it seeks to create an inclusive and accessible society not only for the Deaf but for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in general. PWDs have been left out for a very long time hence ALASO Academy, through working with churches, service providers and companies, equips the society with requisite skills to engage PWDs in their day-to-day activities. ALASO Academy also provides skills and empowered PWDs and provides guidance, advice and support wherever and whenever possible. In addition to this, most language related service providers are not certified or did not receive any academic training to professionalise their skills. ALASO academy seeks to ‘sanitise’ the language profession.
To be (recognized by others as) a leading institution that ensures and inspires the growth, development, promotion, use and teaching of languages as well as language-related fields.
